Chief Technology Officer
Chandler Unified School District
Chandler, Arizona
Colleen Flannery is the Chief Technology Officer for Chandler Unified School District (CUSD), Arizona’s second largest public school district, serving over 44,000 preschool-12th grade students and 5,400 staff members. With nearly three decades of visionary leadership, Colleen has transformed CUSD into a future-focused district committed to ensuring all students reach their full potential.
Colleen's journey with CUSD began 28 years ago, during the early days of the internet and email. Initially aspiring to become a principal, her passion for technology and education merged through a series of projects where she demonstrated her skills and strength in tech. Starting as a teacher and progressing to a dean, Colleen's success led her to the CUSD district office, where she held roles as assistant director and executive director. She has led system and software implementations and data conversions on both the education and finance sides, even during times of hyper growth.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Colleen and her small team of three outfitted the entire district with technology to ensure continuity of learning while schools were closed. Now, as CTO, she leads a team of 60 people across three departments, fostering a culture of integrity, innovation, and customer service. Colleen's work has created an environment where every CUSD department views technology as a vehicle for change.
Colleen is always focused on improving student outcomes and inspires her team and other leaders across CUSD to imagine what is possible. She has built strong connections with local, national, and international companies, providing CUSD students with access to experiences, experts, and technology that set them up for success after graduation. Colleen exemplifies a leader who is data-informed and human-driven, dedicated to the betterment of students, staff, schools, and the community.
