Louis McDonald recently retired as the Director of Technology for Fauquier County Public Schools, where he led transformative initiatives, including implementing a 1:1 Chromebook program, rolling out Google Workspace, and transitioning to a new student information system.
With over 40 years of experience in information systems management, software engineering, and project management, Louis has held leadership roles in both education and technology sectors. As CTO/CIO at Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), he focused on early-stage investments, emerging technology trends, and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and the IT industry. He also managed the development of Virginia DOE’s Longitudinal Data System and previously worked with The Aerospace Corporation, SRA International, and Hughes Aircraft.
Louis holds degrees in Computer Science from California State Polytechnic University and the University of Southern California, as well as an M.S. in Information Systems with a Federal CIO Certification from George Washington University. He is a Certified Educational Technology Leader (CoSN CETL) and currently teaches CompTIA certifications at Laurel Ridge Community College while directing CoSN’s K-12 Technology Environmental Sustainability initiative.
